How do you get back to the forum again?

Do I really have to log in to my gallery...even though I was already logged into the forum before?

I loged in on the new Gallery now can't log out on the way off. Posted on pic and had to fight to get back to the home page. I guess I missed something

I went straight into the gallery, instant. No additional log in needed.

I have a bookmark which is the recent posts list view. That is my 'Home' button which I use after reading every post. I simply click that if I wish to leave the Gallery.

JK, for some reason when I click 'My Gallery' it takes me to YOUR gallery?

I have already raised that with the gallery support team.

I need to find out how to make a button that is available to all users to take you back there.

Best way at present is to either do a back or edit the url to http://www.nikondslr.uk

No we need a Back to Forum button or link so you can click in the Gallery to take yourself back to the forum.
I have requested how to do this from the support team.

All these softwares work slightly differently so it is best to ask and then they tell you how to do it or else do it for you.

You need to create a personal album for yourself before you check this.

Robert does this url   http://nikondslr.uk/photos/misc.php?action=showalbums take you to my albums or your album ?

This url should take you to the top level of all user albums.
http://nikondslr.uk/photos/showmembers.php?cat=500

Please can you confirm this as well.
This level should show just one album entry per user.

Even after I created my gallery and rather fumblingly uploaded an image it still takes you to your gallery, Screenshot below.

If you click on my image in my gallery it will open a new window at full resolution as expected. I haven't tried a large image yet.

Otherwise they go into a Members Gallery dump area.

NO I was mistaken, partly because you were about the only one with several albums and also because my connection is very slow They hadn't all loaded before I moved on.

This one takes you to the top level.?

The maximum size seems to be restricted to 1024 long edge?

I uploaded two lager images but they were both downsized to 1024.

Is this adjustable? I would like at least 1530, long edge, It was user selectable on old gallery. Will have to RTFM!! :rtfm: ;-)

Being the computer challenged one here, I have to say I was able to make a test album, post a photo, and also make a comment on someone else's photo.

Great job Jonathan. I think you have a winner. thanks for all the hard work getting this sorted out.

Are you saying that I have to initially create a gallery using the new software, then upload? The photos I had on the site were just using the first gallery software.

Yes, Click on Gallery in the forum menu>

Then click on 'My Albums' in the header menu.

On 'My Albums' screen at the top left is to option to create a new Album.

Click on that option and enter the title and description of your new Album.

Select Private if you only want it viewable by members.

You can have multiple Albums.

Can I retrieve the images that are lurking in a general user area and redistribute them to the appropriate new albums? I can't seen to navigate to all the images.

Yes, I think you can but I wouldn't attempt it myself. It's quite easy to upload, probably twice as easy as moving the images if you are not familiar with the procedure and I haven't tried it yet.

Although I like a challenge I will have a go... Stand by...

OK, moving an image is a piece of cake.

You need to have an Album of your own to move the image to.

Find the image you want to re-locate, open it.

To the right you should find a command to 'Edit Photo' Click on that.

In the Edit Photo screen in the centre of the screen BELOW 'Choose File', will be the current location of the image. Click on that and you should get a drop down menu of your options for re-locating the image. Select the album you want and it's done.

Easy!

The files in the the previous gallery that we have on this forum will have been downsized and renamed to some strange naming convention used in that gallery.

I suggest that that the best route is to reload the images at as these will then have all the right references and naming.

Sorry, I misunderstood, I thought we were talking about moving between the Albums in the current Gallery.

Assuming you intend to use the new Gallery and have created an Album or albums, a tip to ease access.

While at the 'My Albums' screen create a bookmark, called My Photo Gallery.

The URL is:

http://nikondslr.uk/photos/useralbums.php

Any member who is logged in should on clicking this link go straight to their Album list screen. That is where the 'My Gallery' button should be pointed JK.

This is a screenshot showing my Album screen and the bookmark.

I have put these tips into the Login Privileges thread as well.

Uploading images into an album is easy.
Please make sure that you are in the Album you want to upload in (see Robert's screenshot).

1. Click on My Gallery link
2. Click on My Albums link
3. Select the album you want to upload your images into by clicking on the Upload Images link on right side of screen.
4. To the right side of the field where it says Select the photos you wish to upload from your computer: click on the Browse button.
5. Browse on your computer to the image you want to upload. Select image and click Open or OK. It is Open on my Mac but it may be different in Windows.
6. Click on the Upload/Submit button. Wait for image to upload.

Repeat until all your images are uploaded.

I have asked the PPP support guy to upload a new banner logo for the Gallery so we will get this in the next day or so.

Thanks to Kathy Baker for the new banner.
:-)

Also you will also see that we have a new discussion forum banner logo.

Thanks to Eric Field for providing this.
:-)

Forgive me if you've answered or are addressing this point....when I use the Forums link to return to the discussions pages from the gallery, I am no longer logged in. I haven't checked this on the PC ...but it's true for the iPad.

Eric, have just tried it specifically on my Mac and it stays logged in. I guess this is iPad specific.

JK has an iPad so should be able to reproduce the bug.

Which iOS are you running Eric? There was an update recently.

No I can go on my Mac or iPad between the two (Forum <==>Gallery) and remain logged in.

Have you got the latest Safari update for the iPad.   I dont use Safari on the Mac but instead use Mozilla.
I have found similar effects on the iPad with other sites and put it down to the cookie not being understood by the iPad.

Try this on your iPad2.
Logout of both forum and gallery.
Go to Ipad Settings, Safari and flush the cache and history.
Go into Safari.
Go to Nikon-dslr.net login (accept cookies needs to be turned on BTW).
Go to Gallery using My Gallery link you should go straight in.
Use the Forums link at top of Gallery to return to the discussion forums.
You should still be logged in.

Hope this works for you.  These things are a pig to understand and debug.

No still doesn't work.
I've got the latest OS (updated yesterday!) and I have flushed the cookies and history. Even went through a reregistration of my password.

If while logged in I hit the Gallery link, in the top right it does show a 'log out' option....suggesting I am still logged in at this stage.

If I hit 'back' it goes to the forum and I am still logged in.

If I hit 'my photos', it does go to my gallery (although I have no images in there yet).

If, however, I hit 'Forums' on either of these pages it returns me to the forum page but I am no longer logged in.

Edit OK I have discovered that IF I use the My Gallery link I am still NOT logged into MY Gallery. If I then log in aagain on this my gallery page ....the forum link does then work and keeps my logged in for both the gallery and forum.

It seems there is a glitch that if you go through the Gallery link rather than My Gallery it doesn't retain the log in.

Anyway I have clearly unblocked it by logging in twice....in both areas.

So It's fixed?

If not why not create an Album, you don't need to populate it but it may give you a confirmed presence in the gallery. You shouldn't need to but it may help fix the issue.

The wonders of logic in a computing environment.

Well as long as it works the how and why are a deeper item that we need to keep our fingers crossed we dont need to work out.

:seesaw:
