Eric, I decided on it after reading reviews and comparisons and seeing so many people waxing lyrical about it. And for the first time, I could actually afford to buy something decent that would do me for a looooong time to come! Hopefully it won't prove to be too difficult a beast to drive. I've had a play with the d610 but I just didn't like it. The d810 felt much better in my hands - a bit like the d200.
I think the difference between the D800 and D600 feel is down to the distance between the lens and the grip and also the shape of the grip.
I agree that the D800/810 feels better.
