I have now done more tests indoors with flash at f11 it is very sharp at 80 through to 400mm.

I must say the Nikon 70-300 AF-S VR (it was one of the trade-ins) is a very good lens and has served me well for a good few years but this newer lens has the edge in terms of wide open sharpness. Also as far as I can see no distortion or colour fringing.It is larger and quite heavy but with the D810 well balanced. I have now done more tests indoors with flash at f11 it is very sharp at 80 through to 400mm.
