Theoretically, as AF systems need light and contrast:
-any zoom will have (due to more elements in the lens) have less contrast
-most zooms do not have the same max. aperture as some primes

Thank you. I suppose whilst I recognised that those differences influence the ability to lock on focus or not.... yes or no....black or white, I had never considered that the 'speed' of that focus acquisition was part of the process. I guess it's logical that it's all related.
