However if all you want is to optimise an existing image then Lightroom pretty much has it covered.

I think that for standard photo editing Lightroom is as good as most photos need. However if you want to composite, use layers, edit something out or in that is not in the image, or go more artistic then a version of Photoshop comes into play. I think they go very well together. However if all you want is to optimise an existing image then Lightroom pretty much has it covered.
