England is now totally overcrowded especially in SE and Midlands. The insistence to stop the M1 before Edinburgh was always a mystery to me. In the old days the road to Edinburgh was the A1 and was always full of lorries, until they made the M6 and its extension into Scotland to Glasgow. What they should have done was to make the A68 from Darlington to Edinburgh the main northerly trunk route by widening it to become a M68. This would reduce the horrendous congestion on the M6 northwards from Birmingham. Scotland is the only part of UK that is unspoilt.
