Well you have to use that extra space for something. I've got a section of my camera bag dedicated to tissues, purse, lippy, sweets...all the little essentials you need to go out with. I suppose a man would use the space for a lens or something.
I am reminded of the old observation....
"A man has 6 things in a bathroom...razor, toothbrush, comb, toilet paper, soap, towel. A woman has 323 items. A man would only know what 10 of these are for."
