In view of the above I guess we will see fewer camera bodies coming but with the content also more in the pro-sumer and professional range.
This implies that the D3xxx and D5xxx ranges may disappear.

If this is the case then maybe we can expect to see......
A D5 DSLR and a D5M mirrorless camera
A D500 DSLR and a D500M mirrorless camera
and the like.....


Of course the step to mirrorless is only the first of the technology steps that they need to incorporate as the technologies change.

New technologies coming are:

Higher dynamic range sensors for all cameras with options to save image as TIFF (8/16bit), RAW (12/14/16bit), JPG (8bit).

There is global shutter which allows flash sync at all speeds and without the need for a shutter.

EVF improvements so that the optical screen can be removed and to provide a real time view of image being captured with no blackout and with EV compensation applied so WYSIWYG in the final image.

And more.
