Failing that I would just offer the person a few $ to offset any resale loss.

Would have thought your best chance was to find a used, boxed copy of this camera (ideally defective to keep price low) on eBay or the like. I know someone who got a lens box this way, by buying a damaged 'spares or repairs' version of the lens that had its box. Failing that I would just offer the person a few $ to offset any resale loss. Accidents happen.
