That is fixed by all manufacturers.
It does vary a little by context though. Like displaying bracketing info during setting and taking of bracketed sequences and flash info?
Generally it's a visual of key settings and status info at a glance to save digging into menus to check key settings and stuff like battery capacity remaining.
