I can't recommend PCIe mounted SSD's too highly, they transforms the MacPro with very little outlay.
The adjustment points seem good, very similar to the NIK software. You can use them to cancel out adjustments on small (or large) parts of the image you don't want affected by nearby adjustments too.
I haven't worked out the interoperability of Capture NX-D and Picture Control Utility 2 yet. They seem separate, Picture Control 2 seems to have a collection of presets, sharpening... Ah, and contrast, brightness, curves, saturation and hue.
The curves are quite good, like Ps, not Lr with preset sliders.
