Once you realise where to find things NX-D is a very usable editor. I would describe it as a bit like using the latest version of Office after getting used to the earlier versions, you get there in the end. Of course full compatibility with Mac OS High Sierra is a bonus (it works with Mojave but Nikon haven't confirmed that yet)
It turns out the Black and White points are there, just unusually well hidden. Now I know where to find them, Curves, I shall be able to use NX-D just as easily as NX2 but with a wider range of cameras.

Not that I would expect it to be particularly fast with a D850 or Z7 image, it wasn't fast with one from my 1J5 and that is 1/2 the size.
