That's good.

I suspect the root of your problems is the MacPro 3.1. There may be workarounds but as with most workarounds there are snags.

MP 5.1's with lowish spec, or bare bones are pretty cheap nowadays. It may help preserve your hair to invest in a MP5.1. The 3.1 will still have some residual value as a server, so long as it doesn't have to run recent OS or application software.

With 1Gb dual ethernet, 6 drive bays and 3 spare PCIe slots, it would make respectable server.
