   Yes, unfortunately they have their set ideas on what software can run on any given hardware. They do support their hardware for quite a long time, I had a free of charge repair on my MacBook Pro at 5 years old and even now, at 7 it has only just reached the OS limit at High Sierra.  I haven't seen anything in Mojave that would make me upgrade to get it. (I have several MacBooks).
