OK so today I powered up my MacPro with the power metering hardware and did some measurements. In 8.00 hours of various activities e.g. backup to external drive, internet browsing, email, bit of photo editing and just idling and the use was as follows: Total use = 1.8kW = 225watts/hour Max power use = 404watts Minimum power use = 212watts Unit switched off = 150mW. This is not what I expected so you need a switch that actually knocks off power to the computer as well! No very good Apple. I dont have a MacMini here in UK, I need to rectify that. I have never owned an iMac so measurements are not possible.
