The last Canon I preferred to my Nikon of the time was the Canon F1n which was nicer than my Nikon F2 Photomic but then came the F3.
Like you I prefer the Nikon ergonomics but Canon do have a nice set of long telephotos that are produced to suit all pockets and needs.
