It's the same with home delivery slots. A well known tabloid reported that Tesco released their slots at midnight. Now, the world and his wife are burning the midnight oil, sitting in a virtual queue only to find there are no slots 'left'. (Did it myself on a couple of nights till the penny dropped.)

Supermarkets have a long list of extremely vulnerable people who have first dibs at slots. This means the general populous don't get a look in till Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning. In fact, if you log on (round here at least) on a Thursday there seems to be more slots within days. I do wonder if people put a weekly 'foot down' then release the slot when a better later slot comes up. Just a theory but I wait till Thursday each week.
