They were too far away for me to ID them, although no doubt an expert would recognise their flight per species.

Thanks for the info, it was the vast numbers which struck my attention, we do get migration one way or the other but I have never seen so many and I assume they where many more than those I saw in the few minutes I happened to notice them. They were too far away for me to ID them, although no doubt an expert would recognise their flight per species.
