This cropped up a little while ago, I think Doug asserted that it's possible to use Aperture/iPhoto without importing (or what I call ingesting) the images into Aperture/iPhoto.

If that IS the case perhaps if Dough reads this he might elaborate? I have iPhoto and can't see how to do it use it without import.

I have LightRoom set to leave the image files in their set position in my folder structure, so it doesn't ingest the images. I still find the export procedure in Lr messy and inconvenient in comparison with 'Save As' from Photoshop. That currently is the main impediment to my using Lr more for processing.
