The sharpest mirrorless combo I have used is the Olympus om1 with a 300mm f4 which takes 1.4 and 2x tc’s with no ill effects and gives in FF terms a effective 600/840/1200mm reach I have lots of sample shots at all these lengths . You do lose the flexibility of the zoom though .and the best alternative is there big white lens which is upwards of 6K .
My lad has just bought a canon R7 with a 200-800 rf lens and is really struggling to get decent results with it , there to my mind have been a lot of experimental bodies and lens combos produced by both canon and Nikon over the last few years to leapfrog into the mirrorless world  ..
A lot of problems I feel tends to be older owners not coping with complex menus either combined with weight issues as the user marketplace tends to be the older generation

The plethora of menu items and choices does make setup difficult and tedious.  The advantage is a full set of settings can be saved to one of four Photo Bank in camera so when the banks are all setup it is easy to swap between the setups.
I also think that people expect mirrorless to be lighter than a DSLR, it may be lighter but not by a significant amount especially with long telephotos attached.
