OK - I have a theory - maybe the high number of different coloured points at high brightness is overwhelming the photosites and thus the camera sees the points as white. If this is so then the exposure needs to be reduced dramatically - but that will lose the background - even using HDR I think the only way to capture it is to bracket exposures. Sadly I won't be able to experiment - tickets to Evita are now nearly £400 for the last week of the run!
