I think it’s the difference between the way our eyes register “flashing lights” compared to sensors. The sensor just records overall light and colour at a certain intensity range. If the sparkle is outside that range it will just burn out that highlight. It doesn’t matter if that’s a blue, red or yellow flash…if it’s too much it will burn out to pure white. It’s analogous to overexposed sky. Doesn’t matter if it’s a blue sky, orange tinged cloud or white cloud. If they are grossly overexposed, while trying to get the rest of the image correctly exposed, they are all going to be white. Surely the only way you would record these colour flashes is if the exposure was low enough to capture the individual colour “peaks” within register…ie not climbing the right hand wall on the histogram???
