Now I have the D850, my attention has turned to the two beautiful Sony E mount lenses I use for video - it is a shame they are unusable on the Nikons - one is an anamorphic lens that produces stunning widescreen images.

So, the question is - what Sony E mount camera would you recommend?  25 / 40 mpixels, mirrorless or DSLR, I don't want to spend mega money as this won't be my main camera.

I could, of course, use the Sony FS5 in stills mode but that is a beast to lug around!

Having only owned 2 Sonys, I am not the best person to answer this.

Graham may have a better view with his video hat on.

The earlier Sony E cameras have an irritating tab menu system. The Sony A7 iii drove me mad….but was a nice 24mp camera with good dynamic range.  You may not feel the same about the menu as I did. It was a culture shock I guess.

They changed the menu arrangement to a more familiar side menu on the A1 and I believe on subsequent newer models.

WEX have a lot of used Sony bodies at the moment with some “special offers”. I’ve bought used lenses from them in the past and returned them when they didn’t suit…..they will pick them up. Maybe worth taking a look.

Of course you will lose some width with DX models.
