Welcome aboard, The D1x is a good camera. Solved the issues with the D1 and some feel it produces better images than the D2x, despite being a lower resolution. The big thing to watch is the batteries, they have a fairly short life, and relatively low capacity. Refresh charge every third or so charge to maximise battery life. These batteries must be getting hard to find now. JK and I have both had great success building our own Li-Ion versions, check out JK's site for details. With a good Nikon battery 250-350 images per charge are about what to expect, my Li-Ion conversions can take well over 1000 images per charge. The biggest asset (apart from the free film) with the digital camera is the histogram, get into the hang of checking it before and during every session.
