just noticed a very glaring problem with the new 80-400vr lens ,if your going to purchase one via a online seller ,amazon ,e/bay ,shops or whatever theres virtually no way of telling if your purchasing a old screw drive one or the new ones .in fact i,m certain that one seller i looked at had pumped up the price of a old version to just under a new type price . with no distinctive way of telling and a truthfull description of the lens ,but omitting which version there selling ,a dishonest seller can by-pass the trade description act and get away with it legally .
