I tend to use Text Edit for snippets of text like address labels, extracts from eMails etc. The general philosophy is to allow you to resume where you left off.

Personally I usually complete a task before closing an application so to me it becomes an inconvenience. All part of the process of making it 'user friendly' for the undisciplined 'dumb' mass users.

As an aside, a hidden aspect of the last three OS's since Lion is that while you may quit an application, it actually remains running in the background in case you suddenly decide you need to re-visit a task you were recently working on. You may notice re-launching an application is often much quicker than the initial launch. If you need more resources then it will eventually take those reserved by the closed applications as needed.

Robert-

Just an aside, but you might want to look into replacing Text Edit with a free app called Bean - it's great!

I'm not talking about snippets for quick copying etc - that is a good use of Text Edit. I make lots of notes (or copy from web pages etc) and I love the way apple Notes was immediately synced to all devices.

This bug in the Notes app on the macs pretty much makes it worthless until they fix it.
