Has anyone converted a D3 for IR ?

Yes, has been done but it's problematic, the D3 and most of the newer bodies have a little IR lamp and sensor either side of the shutter which monitor the shutter speed and automatically make corrections 'on the fly'. Unfortunately the IR lamp causes fogging of the image on a converted camera; masking the lamp triggers errors. There are workarounds but I seem to remember they involve altering the firmware. o.O

Will PM you...

I have to say that is a waste of D3.

I agree but I have a spare D700 that would convert nicely.

The D200 is perfectly acceptable as most subjects have sunlight so don't need high ISO.

Does the D300 have this IR light thingie?

I always saw that as a potential upgrade from the D200.

Recognising with IR, that you don't ever get the same degree of sharpness, using the best cameras and lenses might be overkill.

I agree a D300 would be a good option but my D300 is now dedicated to my underwater housing.
