I was wondering how Robert is doing, as he has not been around for awhile, I hope that he is allright.....also, has Ed Constable forgotten us, still looking forward to see more of his photo s from Namibia...anyone knows about them ?

However I suspect his absence from this forum is due to his greater interests of civil & mechanical engineering projects. I havent spoken with him for quite a while but last time I did, he told me that he doesn’t do much photography these days (can’t find the time) and as a consequence his involvement in the forum has lapsed. Ed Constable had been absent for a long period till his recent return and photos of Namibia. Like many people, their ‘other lives’ take priority over their time when it comes to visiting the forum. As has been said on other threads, we need to make the forum more interesting. Without that, there will be no reason to join in with the topics or even return to say ‘hello’.

I still chat with Robert from time to time - he is restoring a road roller in time for a show in July - he may resurface after that (pun intended!)

I'm just off on a 2 week railway Swiss holiday with plenty of good snow landscapes I hope to post on my return. I am not taking the A1 Sony as I need to travel as light ASAP so will have the very good little 2MP Sony RX10

Thank you all for the heads-up,good to hear about Robert and Ed C., and looking forward to see Graham`s photo`s as I am somewhat of a rail-afficionado myself, and yes, we may need to do something about the " low tide " here, so some brainstorming might be in order, having said that, there is something Amiable about being here which is not found elsewhere, so, " perk-up the pace while keeping the peace ",..a tall order to meet, yet we have been around for a long time, so I am confident that we Can and Will Persevere.

I have just "advertised" on social media - might raise interest, but I am not holding my breath!

Graham has said to me on many occasions that he still enjoys his local camera club where he can have an outlet for his photos getting good humoured critique and a bit of lighthearted competition. The biggest inertia I experience after all these years is ……getting out of the door specifically with the intent of taking photographs. It’s much more of a serendipitous habit these days. One way to reduce that inertia is to have a specific purpose in mind for the photographs. It is no longer clients and their wads of cash so there must be another impetus. I have often wondered if WE as a group set ourselves a monthly collective assignment on a range of randomly chosen subjects, and presented them on the forum, if it would be (at least) another regular talking point? Would we engage with that idea in addition to posting periodic photos of our specific photographic ‘hobby’ genre?

Well I have to say that I have other distractions at present with my daughter suffering from leukaemia. Also most of my photography is done pn my Fuji cameras. Not that that would stop me posting. I think a monthly subject may stimulate some interest or at least impetus to go take pictures.

i'm still around though guilty as charged for not popping in enough . plus been a really bad year for birding up this end of the world ...that coupled with high fuel prices has restricted getting out ,I had a bad accident in late oct resulting in my face and knee having a argument with a mountain top that laid me up for 5 weeks then got covid just before xmas and now its the bitter wind chill on the welsh coast thats pinning me down . will try to pop in more often also upgraded my camera body to a olympus E.M1X which although bigger gives me birds eye i.d and full tracking extremely pleased with it plus prices have dropped by 2/3rds in a year

If you try to paste a pic to the reply box that is exactly what you will get - the image "blob" - use the blue cross in the editor toolbar to upload your image or use the attachment box below the editor to upload the image as a file attachment

I personally think the main problem is faceberk and Twitter , yesterday I went through my flickr contacts and culled loads who had not posted for over a year , some I know are deceased but others are now posting on faceberk instead . , forums in general seem to be retracting the only online forum that i regularly visit that’s showing any growth is the olympus E group u.k forum ,and that’s probably down to the release of the OM1 camera body ..a lot of wildlife photographers I personally know have changed from canon,Nikon to Olympus due to it .. Even some that changed to Sony initially have now either changed to Olympus or are running both systems

I follow very few people on Twits and rarely post - as for face ache I never post and only use the messenger to communicate with people I know irl. Ditto Instagram and Whatsapp - there is so much crap on the social media platforms posted by morons, they can stay there and leave the fora to people who have something sensible to say. Maybe that is the real problem - there are so few of that type of person. The horse fora have all declined except for Horse & Hound - and that is SO catty!
