I suppose part of me isn't surprised. It just needed explaining well.

Just wondering where I can get my 25,000 sheep. :-)

He actually has a ranch in New Mexico I think and in some circles his theories are somewhat respected. He went to Zimbabwe and started a school and got partnership with the corrupt government and financial support. Pretty big boondoggle. I met him once and his son several times as I hunted near his facility in Zimbabwe several times. Pretty corrupt operation as I viewed it with very little 'school' involved. Mostly consisted of having herdsmen graze cattle in a constantly moving pattern. Wasn't very impressed with his operation or his hunting camp. Did shoot an elephant near his property and he was to get the meat but his coolers were not functional so we gave the meat to the villegers who lived near his school. He actually had one youngster who accompanied a young elephant 24 hours a day that just more or less wandered on the property. The young man actually had a hut and fenced enclosure he and the elephant stayed in at night.I think he lost all his support there several years ago in some land scheme near Victoria Falls airport. His operation bordered the Fuller Forrst near Victoria Falls,Zimbabwe. That is the elephant I shot in my avatar. He was a friend and supporter of Robert Mugabe. Incidentally i live in Southern Arizona. We have some areas in the National Forrest that havebeen fenced from ALL animals for well over 100 years and these plots show little difference from the surrounding areas. There is an area near my home called the 'Research Area' that has been a research facility with carefully controlled grazing in fenced areas and rotated on a regular basis. Nothing I have seen really supports his basic assumptions. I have travelled over his entire research facility in Zimbabwe and really cannot distinguish it sight wise from many other areas of Zimbabwe of like vegetation. If you look at native settled lands of Zimbabwe they look like a veritable war zone. Totally devoid of wildlife and vegetation. This is basically because all the wildlife has been eaten and the total vegetation has been cut for firewood. I have seen absolutely terrific ranches with great workers quarters totally destroyed when taken over by the native population and the area completely devestated and mud huts built. As you might gather i doo not support much of his theories and practices. I have seen far more of him and his results than I need. This is of course my own opinion and I am NOT either an agronomist, soil scientist, not environmental expert, merely someone who has average intelligence and much observation of the areas concerned.
