I just had cause to hunt back 10 years through my archives for an image to be used on another post.

But in doing so, I came across loads of images I 'forgot I took'. In fact the task of retrieving the image took nearly an hour, mainly because of looking at surrounding images from that period.

Often they were secondary images not used in the various publications but others I took for fun on assignments and at leisure.

These were the early days of the D1X and experimentation was the order of the day.

I have now decided to trawl through my archives and cherry pick images that have been buried in the digital vaults and raise them to greater prominence in a "Images I forgot I took" folder.

Hell...I may reuse some for current clients.

But I suppose it highlights to me that no matter how good your personal filing system, if you cant remember ever taking an image of 'that'...you will never search for it.

For example, I discovered some stonking good shots of statue moulds and the final moulded products. These are really high detail moulded plastic and the resultant images would make really good abstract backgrounds and graphics ....for the right customer.

:sssshh:

Yes I am just catching up with some keywording while I am resting up but I know what Eric is saying and keywording isn't going to help that situation when you don't even know you have the images, you aren't likely to search for them.

I pretty well know most images I have but the way I store them helps. I title the folder with the date followed by a brief description of the event. So if I want some pix I took on holiday last year, all I do is go to last years images, find the date that says holiday.

Yes that's what I sort of do...but not as devotedly as I should.

Well done Jeff.
Love the boat picture. Would like to have one to potter around in these days but moorings in Spain are horribly expensive.
