Thanks for that Tom, I have a lot of tethered work ahead of me when I have finished cataloging and analysing my fuel bills going back to 1983... And some other stuff...

I have been using Sofortbild which is very good and has been perfectly stable for me. However it doesn't work with the D3100, which I may wind up using because it seems very good for some stuff. If the light is good the images are pretty good and I fancy trying it for copying my photo collection.

I also want a couple (or four?) LED Light panels. Have seen some 20 Watt LEDs for about £30 which give 1600 Lumens of light at 6400K.

I have been using 80 Watt Halogen lamps but they get very hot after a few hours, not to mention the power they use. LEDs run very cool.

Flash would be OK, but it takes so much setting up and reflections are a problem when copying prints, especially if they are glossy.

Thanks Tom.
I saw the news release but it was only for Windows so I lost interest.
It is possible to use Lightroom for tethered shooting but it is not so good at camera control as this one. On Mac there is also Sofortbild as Robert pointed out. This works well for me and I used to use it all the time for some studio shoots where I needed to show results instantaneously.

I wonder how well this would work in a Windows VM running on a Mac.

Robert do you have a spec or url to the 20watt LEDs.

I have been thinking about building a light panel for a while but it is difficult sourcing stuff locally.

The one I am looking at is LA0448503 which is 20 Watts but I can't see that on the website, I have a weekly flyer with it in.

These are outdoor floodlamps, they seem to contain a single die LED Would like to dismantle and create two arrays of two with two LEDs in each, to illuminate the four corners of the document. That should avoid dark corners which seems the biggest problem with document copying, apart from reflections and lighting hotspots. Good even lighting is the key.

Colour temp isn't too much of an issue, although I have heard that a combination of UV and IR exposures can help to bring up faded images on very old documents.

From Lightroom 4? (Might be 3) you can shoot teatherd without any other software required. I did it for the fighter shoot I did, worked great.

I forgot about LR's ability. I tried Sofortobild once but really don't need that ability very often, so it's always like starting from scratch... :-)

You used to need a seperate piece of software in the middle, but it does a good job directly now, not as full featured as the windows one at the top, but till pretty good.
