Unless I missed it, they weren't asked WHY they regarded the D7200 as something other than the D300 replacement ...that Nikon perceive it to be. Just shows how the DX sensor is important a wide range of serious shooters. |

I agree with the idea that the D7200 does not equate in body terms to the D300 even allowing for the sensor and other internals. My D300 is a very nice camera the D7200 feels different and lacks the 10pin connector. Nikon really dont understand that the 10pin connector is a well understood connector that provides many different connection options both future, current and legacy. The USB-like connector they provide now for non-professional cameras is just that non-professional and not highly durable. |

The point I was making was that if Thom wanted to send a message to Nikon, detailing the shortcomings of the D7200 relative to the D300 might be more effective. I think we all got the message that DX has a valuable spot in serious photography...even Nikon. The survey should be highlighting where their offering comes up short. |

Thom's survey reflected a survey that Nikon had sent to an nth-name selection of their registered user base. If you read http://www.dslrbodies.com/newsviews/nikon-asks-which-fx-do-you.html it lays out the setting. There were 4000 replies from one posting of the survey at the bottom of the above article. Obviously most of the respondents are regular readers and aware of the futility of trying to send a message to Nikon.  |

The only way you will get a D400 is if EVERYONE answered NO/ NONE to the questions 3...'are you planning to upgrade this year' and 4....'to which of the current models'. Then to question 7 say what you want...EVERYTHING THE D7200 ISNT! Unfortunately getting a unified answer on those 3questions sufficient to speak volumes to Nikon needed organisation. People give wooly answers when answering independently. No company could ignore ALL its selected user base saying they wouldn't upgrade to any current models until they did x y z to the current DX body. |

But the D200/300 feel insubstantial when compared to the D3/4! I think people get too wound up about the feel and possible durability of these bodies...it's the speed of functionality that's important. |

I think that the feel is different but that in fact is just a perception as the cameras now all tend to be built on a magnesium shell. The professional cameras have a heavy duty shutter and weater resistant seals. The biggest difference to me is the accessory socket with the professional cameras having the 10 pin socket compared to the less durable USB-like socket on the non-professional cameras. Of course there may be differences between features up and down the range but this is reflected in the price differential between models. |
