Yes very sad but as her son said she died doing what made her happy.   

Too often we sacrifice our lives on the altar of other people's needs and desires in the mistaken belief that we would be selfish to do what we desire.  

Definition of selfish is:  to force or induce somebody to do something for you rather than what they want to do.  That does not exclude a person considering someone elses needs as well.
This is being self-sacrificing and self-serving to the other person's needs.  
Parents mistakenly do this for their children and is the probable reason why we have so many indisciplined brats these days.
