Great place Rick. Lots of photo ops along the crater rim. The lake water actually gets hotter the deeper you go, showing that the volcano is still active. They were doing major repairs to the old lodge when we were there, but I think it's ready now. Not many choices for food. - EdM

P.S., The scenery along the coast of Oregon and Washington is fantastic. If you get a chance, drive along Washington's Olympic peninsula and the national park. You'll get some great shots. You can get back on the mainland at Port Angeles. We wanted to retire there but it didn't work out.

The scenery is incomperable. Have not been there in years but douubt the country has changed that much. I lived in the central valley of California so came from a different direction. Used to visit my brother at the Univ of Oregon at Eugene when he was getting his Phd. We are both still Photography addicts. The Columbia River Gorge is spectatcular as was the wind surfing when I was there. Also highly approve of the Irish Wolfhound. A Corgi would make a good pet for a Wolfhound. I got mine from Ireland thru the BerryBrow kennels back east. His Irish Kennel Club registered name was Owen of Ballinaboy. We named Him Sam as my brother who is a specialist in middle English said that was a name given one in an old Norse poem about an Irish nobleman who gave one to a Norse king. They are terrific dogs and really make good house pets. Totally gentle with children. I have no exposure to Corgi's except thru shows. Wish you luck and enjoyment in your quest.

Yes it is great scenery. Here's the lake crater and the "island," (or maybe the lava dome?).

Looks like your camera will get a workout on that trip.

Nice shot Ed.

I guess a fly over would be pretty spectacular. Shame I dont go to CA any more as even from 35000 feet these places are visible if you know what you are looking for.

Quite a few water-filled craters in the Cascades, but crater lake is quite large and deep. The event that produced it is old, however, the U.S.G.S. cascades volcano laboratory keeps a constant watch on it. - EdM
