I want to make a set of words into a hot link or url.
This cannot be done in the Quick Reply mode.
To do this within a post do the following.

1.  Open the post in the normal posting mode.

2.  Identify the url of the site that you want to link to e.g. Nikon USA.

3.  Find the url for that site. The url for the Nikon USA site is
http://www.nikonusa.com

4.  Click the little Link button (Chain and Globe) top line of icons, third icon in from the right. This will pop a small window that allows you to paste in the url.  When you OK this then a second window will pop up into which you put the text for the hot link.  When you OK this then the text is put into your post and the hot link created.

See below.
Nikon USA

My icons are in a different order from yours so the guidance of "third from right" is not relevant (see image below). I clicked on the marked icon with the green? top but did not get a dialogue, it simply dumped the text to be seen in my screenshot in the next post.

The screenshot below gives me the syntax but I still can't do it in a user friendly way.

Personally now I know the syntax I am happy but most users would probably be more ready to use this feature if it works as you describe.

LINK: The old Forum.

Done it.  It's easy enough and I would have found it if the browser brought up the dialogue boxes.  Using Firefox 11 on my MBP it works OK.

It seems there is some issue with Safari 5.2.  Not a big problem now because I know what the code is.

It's still a shortcoming given the number of Mac and iPad users here.

Look at the post#5 above for the content of how you made the link to work.

I edited your post to show it.
If you want to show the 'code' being used then you need to use {code} This is my code {/code}
....  with the curly {} brackets substituted for square [] brackets.

Notice it doesnt use the syntax you used to use.

Thanks JK, I have sussed the syntax needed, what I am saying is that given we have several Mac users (and iPod users) It's hardly satisfactory that it doesn't work on all browsers. I only use Firefox as a last resort if all else fails and it's really vital.

I am quite able to code it myself but not everybody wants to get their hands dirty. Some users struggle to use quotes. I think things like this should just work not need the right browser.
