Everyone has been going on about the need to update the D300 for a long time. The need for a pro DX model. Well it's interesting when you go back and review the D300 spec and compare it to the D7100... especially on the eve of the D7200. I am struggling to see what the D300 'pro' labelled body offers that the new X000 bodies don't offer. They have the same weatherproofing, they have the latest improved sensors and expeed. They have comparable fps. So I am wondering if we have been blinded by the supposed pro advantages of the D300? I am starting to believe that Nikon are right... in that they don't feel the need for anything more on DX.  |

To me the only real difference is the build quality of the D300 to the D7100 and this seems to be what a lot of people I talk to want. |

I guess both of you are right. I think the D7100 is a great camera with all the features required but there are changed elements e.g. The 10 pin connector is changed to a USB-like connector that is more breakable. The D7200 will have built in wifi. This is very useful as it means that there are new control options. It would be nice to have GPS as well. |

The D7200 should have an articulating LCD and vastly improved menu system and hopefully Nikon won't reinvent the USB plug and battery again. |

The articulating screen will be like the D750 which I dont think is very good it needs to be like D5200 one. I hope Nikon keep with the EN-EL15 battery. |

Not sure I buy into the build quality concerns with the D7000series models. The lighter weight makes them less prone to dents and dings in my experience. The D3 is more likely to get marked when dropped or banged against something hard because of its higher mass. Besides, they are so much cheaper you could buy a replacement or two.  Jk ...I find the degree of articulation on the Fuji XT to be sufficient. Not sure you NEED to have the complete rotational capability of other models. I may pitch in and get a D7200 ....could be a good upgrade for the D7000 and enough of a stopgap/substitute for the elusive D400. |

I seldom use the flip screen on the XT1 as I think it feels flimsy. My finger/sausage might just crush it if I push too hard! |

A fully articulated screen allows it to be turned inward which gives great protection in a camera bag. It also is great for selfies etc. |

That is the notional price (almost) of a smartphone. The network providers say that a smartphone costs £500-700. Actually, like cars, the real production cost are around 1/10 of this amount so the rest is profit. Best not get me started on car prices. Selfies, like Twitter, etc, is all about self promotion! Since I dont believe in that rubbish it seems that I am in a minority! One very good stistic though is that 80% of popular decisions are wrong or incorrect, so I am happy to be in the 20% who are unpopularly correct >80% of the time.  |

I must side with Eric and JK selfies (totally kids stuff ) and not needed by intelligent life forms. Besides my selfie would scare me to heart failure. I too don't like "selfies" stupid word. Another thing the D300 had is the AF button on the back. Now I know you can program the AE button to do that job but then you can't use it as a AE button anymore. |

Thanks for the clarification Mike, not a feature I am ever likely to use, my 'phone seems to have an amazing range of feature I will never use! LOL Recently my computer started playing at being a 'phone and would 'ring' whenever the 'phone did. I don't have a microphone on my computer so I can't answer a call with it. Also I seemed unable to answer the call on my 'phone while the computer was ringing. Eventually I put a stop to it's shenanigans! I found the appropriate preference and un-checked it. |

The D5500 has been anounced but it doesn't look like much more than the D5300 it is replacing. Will have to wate for detailed specs to make any decisions. |

It does have a touch screen, a first for a Nikon DSLR, but they pulled the GPS;~( |

Perhaps they pulled the GPS because the battery drain of combined touch screen and GPS was too great? Touch screen may be worthwhile, if it works reliably without a rubber tipped stylus. I find my iPhone a real pain at times. Apple have been making them for a while now and even they can't perfect it. Does the touch screen know the difference between my nose and my finger? I frequently find myself inadvertently changing settings on my D3100 while taking photographs. Never happens on the D200 because of the placement of the buttons. |

The touch screen is there because of the equivalent Canon model having it and it is something that new amateurs want as it is like their phone! For me it is a wasted gimmick. It is good as this means the D5300 will become much cheaper. I fancy one but I cant useit with my older lenses so in that way a D7100 is better. So maybe a D7100 or D5300 as my DX camera as replacement for the D300. |

I'm looking at the D5300 to replace the D5100. The older lens thing is a pain as it is only a firmware thing that Nikon won't improve. You can install a chip so the light meter will work on the A seting. |

I like the look of the Df but I also think it is ugly ay other times but my biggest problem is that it is a neither/nor camera. It is neither full features e.g. no video, nor DX, nor enough MP (24MP is perfect) but if it had been 36MP I am sure that it would have been more interesting. Since no camera was released at CES then the next opportunity is in February at the Japanese trade show. In truth I dont really care as I have a complete Nikon armoury of lenses and cameras but a 24MP DX would be good but that might end up being either a D7100 or D5300! |
