When Nikon released the D3 they susequently released a D300 and almost a year later a D700.

Arguably the D800/810 or D750 can be seen as part of the D5 family but in reality they sit closer to the D4S in technology.
So now we have the D5 and very soon the D500 will there be a FX camera ?D710/770? with similar features to the D500 released in the next year.

I still have my D700 as it is very useful light alternative to my D3 (now sold) but a later technology 21-24MP camera would be very useful.

Maybe, however given Nikons twists and turns in the last few years I would say be prepared to be surprised. Isn't it an anniversary soon? Perhaps they will make something special for that...
