There are a couple of rumours of Nikon producing a new FX camera. D820 https://nikonrumors.com/2017/05/04/new-set-of-rumored-nikon-d820-camera-specifications.aspx/#more-112073 45MP but essentially an improved D810. I guess this combats the new Fuji GFX medium format 44x33mm sized sensor, as opposed to Nikon FX 36x24mm, but not in the fullest sense as a larger sized sensor will probably have better noise characteristics. |

Not sure if this is what I want but I guess it would then shift my D800 to replace my D3S. |

Looks interesting . but will it be as Responsive as a Big D camera and what will Pricing be ? |

Sounds like a lot of camera...I have 2 complaints...too big a sensor!!! and the wrong choices in card slots...who actually uses both ! ..should be two of whatever you use !!! |
|||||||||

I agree about the slots Tom. However in my D500 I have filled both slots SD and XCD. Needs be! |

Can't see Nikon coming out with less pixels than Canon |

Well rumour tree says 45-50MP. I will wait and see what arrives. Personally I want a 24MP D810 clone. Identical body configuration as D810 but 24MP. Then if a D820/D850 comes as well at 50MP I will pass on it as my D800 has enough pixels, a 50MP camera would be a catch-up Canon and Fuji GFX. The Fuji GFX is 50MP with a larger than FX sensor (44x33mm). For me the sensor size is not a big enough increase if it had been 50x40mm then it would have been much more interesting. However the GFX is physically no larger, or not by much, than a FX DSLR. |

I have to say that for what I do I think 36mp is too much so 45-50 would be way over kill. |

36 MP is more than enough I will stick with the D810 does fine for me! |

Latest rumours of the D820 say that it will be late July for the product info release. But who knows when in the shops. Might be tempted but I am hearing it is 45-55MP so I am interested but not interested. |

July 25th may be date for information release as it is 100th Anniversary date and Nikon want to make splash. |

Nikon are calling it the D850 |

Yes but there are no details. I guess that this is so in order that Canon cant develop a spoiler. |

Looks like they are after the very high end big chip Hasselblad commercial & advertising photo market but would noise still be the big problem for Nikon with the size of the chip compared with the medium format cameras? For what I do the D810 has more fine detail than I ever need and noise at reasonable ISO levels is very good, ie up to 1600 ISO. |

I have been using my D800 for flamenco photos at ISO 6400 and the results are good. They are as good as my D3S but also due to the higher pixel density give me better cropping opportunity on some occasions but in general the images look smoother. I try to frame accurately so I dont need to crop extensively. |

Won't find me in the lineups for this one. Looks like it will cost around $4000 US and won't be readily available till December. |

I dont want the megabattery pack of the D5 that adds so much extra weight. For those occasion I can get an extra grip for £â‚¬$300. This camera looks like an alternative to the Fuji GFX50 MF camera. I have all the Nikon lenses I want or need. |

I dont want to jump too soon but if everything is on the D850 that I have heard promised then it will be ordered on day1 of release. There is a promise of the D850 having the option to choose 45/24/12MP and being 150 x 115 x 82mm (same size as D750 almost) with CAM20K (same AF as D500). Bring it on..... Quickly. Anyone want a D3S low use? |

How can it change and 'spread' different pixels across an FX sensor???? That would be no more than DX cropping in an FX body? |

Happy for Santa to deliver. 2018 will be a great year for me! |

Eric wrote:jk wrote:Not sure how they would implement such a thing. I guess it would be a software feature in camera EXPEED 5 chipset. This would take the image at 45MP then resample it to 24MP or 12MP. I would only want to use 45/24MP. Personally I want the accessory set to be delivered around the 10pin socket (D800/810) rather than the push in plug that is on D750/610/600. Also I want the same battery as is in the D810/800/750/600/500. This is really important to me. |

Will be interesting to see if older glass, that doesn't stand up to 24+mp will look fine at 12mp. |

If it's capturing at 45mp it will still need best practise. It is all about the workflow and storage. There are many professionals who say that 20MP is enough for most/all jobs. I tend to agree but occasionally my D800 is not detailed enough. This is very occasionally and would centre around product shots or landscapes or commercial work where my customer wants a huge print. This is out of the ordinary request but 46/50/100MP can satisfy this. I have found that occasionally 36MP is not enough. Also like I say the MP delivery is incidental as I want a standard set of accessories that use the same 10pin interface and the same battery technology and charger. |

One thing we should not forget is that Nikon make exceedingly good suport electronics. The EXPEED chipset is what differentiates Nikon images from other who use Sony sensors. |
