Although there is an attraction from the old styles, I have to say my bare metal cameras always collected more visible scratches. The black plastic coatings are more to my liking these days.

I am not getting this....in this day and age of mobile phones used by everyone to take pics., one would think that Nikon would focus on Pro-camera`s, unless aps-c is considered the new pro-format ??

Looks interesting but for APS-C I have Fuji cameras.

Supposedly magnesium top and bottom plus some strengthening around the mount - though they could have fooled me. Overall it's basically a Z50 with the Z6 II focus system in a less ergonomic body.

So will this replace the D500 or is it an as well as item. I like the styling apart from the Z mount. I have to say I am nudging towards the idea that I wont be buying another Nikon.

At this stage, it is a well as. IMO, Nikon like to make life difficult for their users. One only needs to look at the user complex functionality of HDR and focus bracketing compared to Fuji and Olympus. Another issue I've found with the Z bodies, and this could also be due to me not having a setting right in the menu, is when taking photos with the camera inverted (required for many native orchids and fungi including some of the ghost fungi), the image remains inverted in preview (not LV), and computer import. With the Z50 and Zfc there is no remote available with 1/2 push for focusing, and is not an option which will be supported.

Certainly the wireless/bluetooth remote (ML-L7) has no focus 1/2 press just a full press. How stupid!

I took the Z fc out again this morning. I tried both normal and silent shutter. I didn't notice any anomalies in the images using silent shutter, so was happy about that. I took over 500 images on one battery, not sure how much was left in the battery. I was going to keep using it until it went flat, but didn't get that far today. I had a spare in my pocket. Focusing was fine, particularly when the birds were in bush with dappled lighting. A few snaps from this morning #1 Red Wattlebird #2 Golden Whistler #3 Purple Swamphen #4 Spotted Pardalote (Male) outside the nest he was making in the bank #5 Spotted Pardalote (Female) #6 Red-browed Finch

As the remote has function buttons, maybe one can be programmed to give remote focussing - like using the back button to focus? Click here to comment on this image.

Good idea @chrisbet. I'll see if I can get BBF working and try it out. I decided to have a play with the ML-L7 remote this morning. Nikon love to make life difficult. It took me 1/2 and out to figure out how to get it connected. Once connected it worked quite well. A couple of snaps from this morning #1 Z fc with Lensbaby Velvet 85 #2 Z fc with 105mm macro. 15image focus stack

I find that getting some of the bluetooth and wifi connections working to initially connect is a real trial. Once connected it usually works very well. Did you manage to get a solution to the focus half pressure issue?

Yes, I have, along with Cascable. Its really not an issue for me as the main purpose of buying this camera was for birding. For anyone considering this camera it is something to be aware of. Another snap with the Z fc Common Bronzewing
