Having just acquired a MD11 motor drive for the FM I am totally confused by the MD 11 manual that refers to setting the camera to "motor" mode via the ring around the shutter release. My camera does NOT have the knurled guard or the red & black lines referred to in the MD11 manual.

The finger guard is plain and does not rotate.

Did they change the mode of operation on later FMs? Mine is serial 3092852.

Any ideas?

If I remember correctly... 40+years ago... The MD11 fitted on the FE and FM.  I cant remember if the FE2 and FM2 shared the same MD unit but I guess not as it would have been updated as it also supported the FA.

As I remember all you did to fit and use the MD11 was to remove the two caps on the bottom of the camera and screwed it on and off you went!

Loads of info here...

Wow, thanks for the links - a wealth of information there and the answer actually lies in the MD12 manual and appears never to have been updated in the MD11 manauls - FMs after 3000000 did not have the manual change over finger guard - it was done electronically in the camera as from the introduction of the MD12.

There are no caps on the bottom of the FM so the MD11 screws straight on and just needs the power turned on - it also powers the camera's exposure meter.

Now all I have to do is go out and use it!!

Yes it is the one that I purchased. It is called "I'm Back Film".
I uses a 20MP 4/3 sensor.

The website is a bit vague on how it works / what the kit contains - is it just the internal roll / sensor or does it link to a "black box" fitted externally?

Is it easliy swappable from one SLR to another?
