I have just done another RPS (Royal Photographic Society) workshop with Simon Walden in his super Cheltenham Studios. Two days of "Fine Art Nude Photography" We were over booked after 24 hrs so had to run the 2 day workshop three times it must be the great models rather than the draw of the two tutors! The D3X used to had very poor auto focus with this type of back lighting in the studio but the D800 never puts a foot wrong with auto focus. Attachment: CheltRPS3329.jpg (Downloaded 31 times) |

This pix was with just one large softbox. D800 worked perfectly auto focus picked up at once. Sadly we are seeing 2/3 of members at these workshops with Canon mostly 5Ds against 1/3 Nikon but we are seeing a lot of D800 and even one D800E. Attachment: CheltRPS3317.jpg (Downloaded 31 times) |

nice shots graham ,i am starting to wonder if its the way to go ,before my aged d300s gives up the ghost .if hopefully the second half of the year evens out i might manage it ,still really wanting a d400 but nikon are keeping everyone guessing |

The D800 is a brilliant camera and it works well under low light conditions both from a high ISO and AF perspective. However regarding new cameras I want something that has less MP (24MP is good) but in a D800 body! The D600 is OK but it lacks the 10 pin socket and I use that for my GPS data. Also if it is DX so much the better for me and others when I do long telephoto work. Glad to hear that you are still keeping busy Graham. If you want a trip to the Valencia area I am sure that we can put you up and I can press you into giving a talk at the local camera club. |

At 72 perhaps I am starting to show my advancing age Robert Bracher one of our RPS students at a recent workshop took this pix of me and won the Portrait Prize at his local camera club!!!! Nice shots, Graham. I agree on the D800. The only time you need a D3 or D4 is sports or other machine gun type shooting IMHO. Aside from the advantages you mention, the D800 is quite a bit lighter and more manageable for my hands... As I age, I find the D3 getting heavier and heavier  |

The D600 is much lighter but then again the XPro1 is even lighter yet  |
