Hi Christopher isn't with me right now but I thought you might like to see some of his work from Tuesdays trip.

He took the photo's completely on his own, I have processed them for him, generally to his ideas. Just to be clear, Chris is 13.

All are taken with the Nikon D3300 with a badly scratched 18-105 lens.

With flash:

Neither of us can understand how this happened... Any suggestions or explanations welcome. Not been messed with in the computer, that's how it came off the card???

Like the night swans photo.
Your Moon and Venus is nice.
I prefer #2 to #1 as the silhouette version works better for me but I also like the light on the wall and trees in #1.

Tell Dad, your #2 is better than his, even though it doesnt have the Moon and Venus.

Surprisingly perhaps, I prefer the flash fill in image best! Perhaps it's a tiny bit over filled but still a great image.

With regard to the superimposed moon....were you shooting straight at the moon through the trees?

It's almost like a bifocal/parallax effect....can't remember the right term....your Dad will know!

Looking at it now I think a graduated adjustment to reduce the exposure on the leaves would help, I was looking through the trees, not at the wall and leaves.

The moon has me mystified. I don't think its camera movement, BUT thinking about it, he was hand holding the camera for that shot I think, if the camera moved after the flash then the moon was bright enough to make it's own exposure in the time the shutter remains open but there is no movement blur... o.O

I don't think the D3300 has the ability to make double exposures, if it does I don't expect it's something you would do accidentally. The only way to prevent the flash going off is to hold it down! Chris used some gaffer tape when we were on Skye.

Adjusted the foreground... Applied the detail extractor in Efex Pro 4 and a graduated adjustment in Lr. Checked the black and white points in PS but they seemed good.

Is there a protective filter on the front of that lens?. Just wonder if it's creating a kind of hotspot effect from backward reflection...but this time giving a sharp image ...as the moon was the focal point?

No, no filter, it's the one lens I have which SHOULD have a filter on it. :'(

It get used in the workshop and subject to all kinds of abuse. It's my best IR lens, was. Nes has another waiting for me I just hope it's as good for IR as this one has been.

Given the filthy condition and the two heavy scrapes the eBay sellers oft repeated claim that it doesn't seem to affect the images holds true. The only time I have really noticed any detriment in an image has been pointing the lens towards the Sun. It exhibits some interesting flare and rainbow effects!

Whoops sorry I should have said it's the Nikki 18-105 VR which I got from Nes when I got the D3100.

It was my favourite IR it doesn't suffer from any hotspot I can see and it's a very handy range on DX.

Mmmm...

It seems I am wrong about the 'flash'. Have just been discussing this image with Chris and it seems he used a torch for lighting he placed the torch on the car roof then took the photo holding the flash down on the camera "because the camera flash is crap" in his words!

Apparently I was drinking the last of the hot chocolate in the car.

I asked if he moved the torch during the exposure but he didn't, it was just laid on the car roof. I would like to look at the original file and any shadows because I only have my phone with me. A big screen would be needed to examine the image properly.

Teach me not to make assumptions!!!

I've just watched a tv programme with a film of a car, backlit, driving towards the camera. In the middle of the screen in front of the car was a half moon....not curved but a white semi circle. As the car came closer to the camera and the cameraman zoomed out the half moon became.... half of a water droplet. It was a reflection of the back light scene.

I just wonder if there was a small water droplet on Christopher's lens???

We have in the past had spammer who just join and then fill the threads with spam urls to photosites. Hence Eric was checking the process so please dont be offended.

I as Admin and Robert as moderator watch posts especially from new members because of this past spam problem.
Please dont be put off posting as every member has different and valuable experiences.

Like I said...introduce yourself, tell us your pedigree, your expertise, your interests, equipment you use, your connection with fixthephoto....whatever. Join THIS community.

Don't just keep saying "I like that shot ...by the way, go to fixthephoto.com for lots of articles".

Whilst there is absolutely nothing wrong with sharing others expertise and articles, two directions to the same site in your first two posts seemed a bit ....loaded.

This community may be small in numbers, but there is a wealth of experience here that if tapped, may have the answers you seek....assuming you joined for that reason. For example, to my certain knowledge, there is at least one member who was 'fixing the photos' commercially with Photoshop v2.....way back in 1994 BL (that's Before Layers)

Anyway, we look forward to your future contribution to the forum. :thumbs:

Do you have the same problem? You can't play Blu-ray disc on PC's DVD drive.
If so, what do you need just the Blu ray player software for PC, i have tried, good. http://www.f2fsoft.com/blu-ray-player/
