a word of warning and of recovery .. as you may have seen I bought a new to me camera the other day off of e.bay got it at a bite yer arm off price .. on arrival it was in excellent condition visually and had obviously been used in a studio with no marks or paint wear to the body , it was however very dusty I had to take the eyepiece apart to clean it but its now gleaming .. however on taking a few test shots the other night it seems the sensor was also extremely dusty .. I then asked the seller for a partial refund to buy a sensor cleaning kit which has just turned up and the job is now done . below are before and after shots .. the lesson here is be careful when buying used on e.bay , and be very very careful when changing lenses always keep the throat of the camera facing down and switched off .

This is very important especially on mirrorless cameras.

Well, that was Very Civil of the Vendor to pay for a cleaning Kit , as it would be the responsibility of the Present Owner to have a Clean sensor, it is an Easy task to do, ...I clean the Sensors at least once a month, had to buy the AC power supply for the D1 / D1x though, no xtra cost for the SlrN nor the D3s / D3x as they have the provision build in,.....I use Sensor Swabs, yet ,You mentioned a " Kit ",..what did you use ?

One can only wonder how the previous owner managed with such a dirty sensor. Immaculate on the outside, filthy on the inside. The quality of their images can't have been critical.
Usually when a vendor sells something it's cleaned inside and out? A used car washed on the outside but dirty inside would not attract many punters.

I am inclined to think that the camera was left in a bag or on a shelf with the body cap not fitted correctly. The dust just gathered over the time it was kept as a back-up and got on to the sensor when it was checked occasionally. If you aren't using a camera regularly it is easy to forget to check the sensor cleanliness.

Ah Yes...I was wondering about if that sensor had been camping out in the rain.., never seen that before,...and yes , normally seen it should `ve been in a Good condition , but BlackFox mentioned a Low price point, and a quick wash is not the most challenging...when I get a 2nd hander it receives a Thorough Cleaning , inside and out,..would like t´ know if BF considers it a Good deal after all or...?..

I think that a dirty sensor is just a question of laziness on the vendor's part.
Cleaning a sensor is fairly easy these days.

Surely the sensor is more like the engine compartment and I suspect that doesn't get cleaned much! Even the dealers only spray a bit of silicone round to make it "look" clean 
First thing I did when I got the D90 was to clean the sensor and update the software - cameras left on the shelf and sold off because they are not wanted are bound to need attention.

If I was to buy a secondhand body then this is exactly what I would do but I have been cleaning my camera sensor since 1998.

When I say kit it was a pack of half a dozen swabs and some fluid , Not having used full frame before I had no swabs that size , and yes it was nice for the seller to pay for the kit but the alternatives through e.bay would have meant me returning it and him paying for the carriage which would have been twice the amount . .. so do I still consider it a good buy so far yes , the used ones I have seen for sale usually In a extremely worn condition are invariably twice to three times what I paid . . This was very under described in the advert I.e it read Ҡfor sale boxed . “â€
It actually turned up in the original box ,both manuals ,charger ,two batteries,(both good) , unused flash shoe cover and a few other bits I have no idea of
Yes it was dusty but totally unmarked , not a scratch or hint of paint wear anywhere .. not only that I paid for it on bank holiday Monday morning it was taken to a DPD depot that afternoon arrived first thing weds morning
