While rummaging through some old photos for a project of mine I came across this portrait taken at a reenactment event …..back in the days of yore. A humorous image but deliberately shot with grainy film (can’t recall the ASA or even film stock  ) to give it ‘an edge’. It made me think about digital cameras and how we are at pains to avoid high ISO noise. It might be interesting to go crazy again and shoot some subjects (the right ones) with ISO 125,000. Lovely photo,....and I was thinking that the other day, certainly in B&W, even my old D1 can hold its own when overclocked. |

Just been talking to Eric about some of the older Nikons as I have just got a very good 2nd hand D300S body from WEX for £150 and the quality of images is very good. This is an old shot of mine with another D300 at 1600 ISO 18-200mm lens 1/100sec at f4.2 hand held with hardly any noise and pin-sharp results with very poor light. Slate mine at Ffestiniog. They had me up in the Gods on this narrow walkway….2foot wide with obstacles and uneven. No safety net, ropes or even a helping hand…..noone would go up there with me.  I remember it so well because despite being ok with heights I managed to swing the D3 over my shoulder descending the equally restricted spiral stone stairwell and scratched its hot shoe on the walls. I was tempted to carve my name alongside the scrape.  Those were the days eh? I’m not sure I would fit up that stairwell now. In truth not sure how me, the camera gear and tripod squeezed up there at all! They must have all been anorexics in those days. |

The one Nikon camera I haven’t got rid of is my D300s I still love the images off that sensor. |
