Hi Rob, good to hear from you, hope you and yours are safe and well.

Chris Hammer popped up a while back after quite an absence.  Look forward to some more excellent aircraft images.  Things have changed quite a bit recently since ChrisBet took the software in hand.

I'm not sure what to say about the current situation; I have more time for photography but not many planes are flying and it looks like the airshow season might be a dead loss :-)

Even without the current virus issue our airshow season is dismal in the UK, various accidents and the cost of putting on such events seems to have decimated the calendar.

Higher level car rallying has all but stopped due the extortionate cost of event insurance.  Even well established wealthy clubs are struggling.

Hi Rob,

We have not "met", but welcome - the more the merrier.

I am into aircraft too - I wanted to be a pilot but ended up going into engineering, initially on aircraft jet engines. I worked for the National Gas Turbine Establishment, next door to Farnborough in Hampshire - as "sister" establishments I had access to them both so getting into the Farnborough air show was no problem, especially as I lived in accommodation right next to the north gate of the airfield!

I have fond memories of an English Electric Lightning taking off and standing on its tail just next to where I was with both engines on afterburner and shooting vertically into the sky; of Concorde on its early flights ( I worked on the Olympus engines); of the V bombers and of 9 Scimitars taking off in diamond formation, boy did the ground shake!

I was also into photography and have many film photos and 8mm films of air shows at Farnborough and Biggin Hill from the 1960s.

You won't have noticed much difference on your last visit as you were still on the old Ultra theme - I have updated you to the new theme with the modern editor etc. The gallery is the best place to add your photos rather than "attaching" them - you can do this by either URL from a remote site or by using the blue + in the editor to upload from your computer. There is also a new beta gallery you can explore and a new PM system more like a phone text conversation. Explore and ask for help if you need it.

Hmmm, Unread comments button gets this:

Invalid SQL query: SELECT * FROM ultra_gallery_comments WHERE gallery_id = ORDER BY comment_date_time ASC-You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'ORDER BY comment_date_time ASC' at line 1

Rob, don't worry about it, I have removed the button, it was too confusing methinks!
