Nikon Cashback NOT  Rating:  Rating

I just replaced one of my wife's lenses and took advantage of the current Nikon Cashback offers. I scanned the relevant paperwork, uploaded it to their site, didn't get the supposed immediate approval email they promise but rang them a week later to confirm all was ok.

Today I recieved a prepaid Nikon 'credit' card. I assume it's got the agreed Cashback on it...paperwork doesn't say. Essentially I can use it to buy stuff to the value of the cashback, or more using a split transaction with another card...provided the vendor will accept split transactions.

Never having gone for Cashback before is this procedure normal? I assumed that they would send me a cheque that I could bank and use in the normal way. As it is, I HAVE to spend the money to get the cash...which seems contradictory. And I have to spend it within 6 months or there is a 2% handling charge on future transaction.

Apart from the constraints and complications how much behind the scenes does it cost to create a credit card account for every person claiming Cashback?

Can't help thinking it's a hammer to crack an egg and one that I won't seek out in future. Silly complications

Off to decide what I need for £35!!!!

New battery for a D7000 camera will cost that!!

If they want you to buy Nikon goods why not offer a bonus choice system where you spend say £400 and get £40 worth of Nikon goods from them.

Yes I could get one...but it's spending unnecessarily as I havent drained the D7000 battery ever yet.

I suppose what annoys me most is that yet another 'account' has been set up with my details...when I didn't want another piece of plastic or further dissemination of my details!! And it's NOT cash back.

I see several ads in the US where they give you a cash card instead of a check. I even saw one where a car company was giving a $1200 cash card instead of a discount on the car.

I guess I am old school and prefer a check vs. a cash card. I find a cash card to be a pain in the behind.

I upgraded a cell phone. The new phone was $99. OK, let's do this... disable the old phone, transfer contact info from the old to the new phone, transfer the number over to the new phone, do a bunch of paperwork...

When all this was complete I was charged $149. What? It's all very simple, he said. I would receive a $50 rebate on a plastic card after mailing in another large form with lots of little boxes in which I needed to enter various bits of information. 149 - 50 = 99... Grrrr
:whip:

It is not about the money................it is about your information...............Using the card is sort of a spending tracking tool also.     It is getting very tricky out there.
Young people know more about it then I do.  Over here when someone knocks on your door to ask if you need help voting (ride etc.) they know EXACTLY who you are, your age, your income, what party you area affiliated with and much more than I can remember.  Talk about big brother watching, we are way past that.  Big brother could not keep up with corporate America (or global world) now.

I'm a Yorkshireman, Tom.

I promised the notes in my wallet there were some new friends coming to enrich their captive lives.

They are now disappointed being left alone in the dark, with the same cell mates for company.

That a bit naughty, they should have told people it was a cash card.

very naughty indeed ,and i think that trading standards would take a very dim view of this ,especially from a gilt edged company

Well I am about to blow their consumer research as I plan to use it to buy vegetables at the supermarket.
