Well Happy Christmas and Merry New Year 2023 to everyone. I have to say that in January2023 we are due to have further expense to keep the forum alive. I no longer have the energy to run the forum and manage it, so I offer it to others to fund and run the forum. If you want to take it on then please PM me. I have been doing Moderation and Admin on the forum since 1998 so have say that it is time to stand down and either close the forum or pass it to another person. Thank you dear friends for all our interactions and the great fun that we had. Adios, Adieu, Goodbye. Jonathan. |

You have done a super job for us all JK and I know we all thank you for all your hard work over many years. I regret that at 82 I am not prepared to take over from you and sadly if nobody steps in there will be no way shutting down can be avoided. Sadly in recent times, there are far too few of us taking an active part. If somebody as one of you, perhaps Chris, wants to step in I would be happy to remain a sponsor. |

I will take it over. There is no expense due in January - we are paid up until December 2023 and then it can become a sub domain of my website which is paid up to December 2027, so we have 5 years left with no expense. The best sponsorship that everyone can make is to post and share your photos. Do not underestimate this resource, it has many visitors with up to 200,000 page views each month. |

Well done and thank you Chris I am 100% with you I am very happy to keep up my modest help once a year and will keep posting as and when I get a 1/2 reasonable photo. I have phoned Robert and told him and left a phone message for JK and Eric. All the very best you know how to get hold of me and Happy Christmas!!! |

Thanks Chris for this. I am as always willing to help but I feel that as my Nikon use wanes I no longer feel that I have the enthusiasm to continue. |

Thanks Jonathan and Chris for all the behind the scenes effort you have put in. Hard though it is to say, I am not sure, given the level of posting particularly over recent years, there are enough members with sufficient enthusiasm or interest in contributing to make it worthwhile continuing. Whilst I acknowledge that the web presence does attract page views….to what end? There are few meaningful discussions, little experience or information sharing and only one or two people posting images periodically. In truth little to encourage return visits let alone new membership. Speaking personally, I have not felt the urge to contribute for some time now, but still log in periodically in the vain hope something interesting may have erupted. Apart from Grahams interesting exploration of the Sony A1s capabilities, there has been nothing for weeks. Sorry to be a killjoy, but I feel it serves no purpose to continue. |

I understand where you are coming from Eric but there must be a reason why on average over the last few months the site has has 45 returning visits each week - clearly something is bringing people back. Fora have experienced a declinging audience for some time now and many have disappeared facebook groups and youtube seem to be the go to places for so many things because of the way search engines steer people. I don't think something worthwhile has to have a purpose, it is enough that it is and there are some beautiful images hosted here as well as some worthwhile discussions. So I intend to leave the forum running and maybe it will die a natural death or get a second coming, who knows? |

I do not wish to put water on fire if it is out! I hear what Eric and JK have to say but if you want to keep it running to save the past history I am happy to keep posting if that would help you. Click here to comment on this image. |

Well a thank you to everyone for their contributions over the years. I have to say that my Nikon days are nearly over and whilst I will keep some items I will not be purchasing any new Nikon kit unless a Z8 comes in the near future. My setup is now almost totally supported by the offerings from Fuji. The new Fuji XT5 and XH2 and XH2S are all superb and they have a range of lenses that suit me well. |

Welcome to the Fuji Forum then |

jk wrote:Well a thank you to everyone for their contributions over the years. At the risk of interrupting the wake, it would be nice to hear how you use those different models (ie subject, functionality etc). I still have fond memories of my Fuji period (still have some Fuji gear) and feel they are the only manufacturer that has remained faithful to the lightweight, compact, mirrorless DSLR ethos. |

Well I think that Nikon have lost the plot. D850 was excellent DSLR but I wanted a mirrorless. The Z7 was OK but the AF occasionally seemed to get confused. I decided since I had so much Nikon kit to wait for a Z8, which would be an equivalent to the D3/D700 pairing, so a Z9/Z8 pairing but this has not been delivered. I have lost patience. Rumour has it arriving in March or April 2023. I have most F mount lenses but I have the 24-70 f4 and 14-30 f4 in S mount. If the Z8 arrives soon or before I release my Nikon stuff then I would get a 100-400mm S mount and the 85mm f1.2 The Fuji cameras mirror my full Nikon system but there is no bellows so I use my Nikon PB4 on the odd occasions I need this. I am thinking that the Fuji 8-16mm is my one missing item. The XT5 (40MP) is an XT3 (26MP) on steroids with excellent AF. The AF is probably a whisker behind the A1 but unless you do side by side shooting then it is speculation rather than fact. The bird eye detection AF works well and works on insects! The IQ is excellent at ISO below 800, but depending on the light it works well up to 6400/8000 no issue and can go further with good noise reduction software - Topaz DeNoise AI is excellent. In dull shade it starts to look grainy. (Similar to the D7000 tests we did Eric). This isnt the case with the XH2S (26MP) but since the XT5 and XH2 share the same 45MP sensor then I expect the same as XT5, for my XH2. I should really do a side by side test. My Fuji 16-80 f4 lens is definitely wanting compared to the more expensive 15-55 f2.8, the 16-80 f4 just gets by on a 26MP camera but the 40MP XT5 and XH2 shows it to be inferior! The 80mm f2.8 macro, 90mm f2, 16-55mm f2.8, 50mm f2 do not suffer like this on the XT5 and XH2. So the 8-16 is now on my radar. I personally prefer the dials of the XT5 but you do get used to the XH2/XH2S layout and some aspects are better. So I am firmly in the Fuji camp these days. Nikon questions you have to ask........ Zfc (DX) is a stunning D500 replacement, but why no Zf (FF) equivalent, to replace the Df? Z7ii is a little better than Z7 but nothing to write home about. A Z8 is required, 4 years later we still wait but maybe Z9 held them up. The Z8 is a temptation but the desire wanes when you see the lack of urgency. |

If it’s to be saved we need more input. I put a bird image up on the 11th November and left it to see how long it would be before someone else put something on, it still hasn’t happened yet. If the posting or lack of it continues like this then the forum is already dead. |

I messaged Admin a while back asking if I could suggest to members of the AP forum that they would be welcome here, that forum is closing. I haven't received a reply. Those members have now started a new forum 65 new members would have mad a difference here. |

Well ,I for one am Happy that this forum continues with Chris taking the giant step, especially that in Very recent years I have aquired some Interesting lenses for my Nikon gear, why just this Christmas have I been given a TAMRON 15-30 f2.8 G2, as my family understands that I find it impossible to hold the 14-24 steady under low light level...I can hardly fathom that I have it, and I need to sort out how to use Nikon Studio , also hereby express the hope that everyone will stay on , as I have migrated from the Old forum myself , which I joined when I got my SlrN which was in 2008 I believe , and would feel sad to see even more people leave, and so ,Welcome to our " new " moderator. |

You need not worry, the forum will still be here for the next 5 years at least. I notice that the Nikon Gear forum has various themes like objet trouve, the color red and 13 - maybe something similar here - this forum has been largely dominated by birds. All suggestions welcome - I'll put my thinking cap on! |

Hi all, I guess I'm a total stranger here now because my last post was written long ago when the forum was still nikon-dslr.net. Please pardon my silence because I switched to m43 in 2015 after nearly got a heatstroke carrying my D800e and a number of heavy lenses during a photo trip. I'm writing to thank JK, Eric and other administrators for "keeping the lights on" and their unceasing efforts to make here the most friendly photographic forum I can think of. This certain requires lots of time and energy. Lastly, merry Christmas to you all! Click here to comment on this image. |

Hello again everyone. You're right Chris, Nikon cameras are good, but switching to m43 means I can carry a "true camera" all the time... Btw, lesson learnt - dirt-cheap 3rd party batteries worked fine in Hong Kong, but only last a few dozen shots in the cold weather of the UK. |

More "quality" contibutors! Some fora have many more contributors but if the qualty of the contributions is low then vistitors won't come back. As they say "feel the quality not the width!" |

chrisbet wrote:More "quality" contibutors! It’s only the same old crew that seem to have sufficient enthusiasm to make any contribution. The world seems content to look at the scant images we post and eavesdrop the ramblings on subjects that may start on photographic issues but soon drift on to unrelated chatter. I suppose the world now looks to teenage influencers on social media and YouTube for informed guidance? Ye Gods! |

I’ve just posted my last archival resurrection image, you will be glad to hear. From here on, it will be new captures or nothing. Sadly, as the weather, time of year and other commitments are likely to inhibit photographic opportunities for a while, it’s likely to be …….nothing. So I am signing off for now. |
