Will the new Sandisk ultra 2gb card work in a D-1 or do I need to get the older type that is called out in the Nikon website. Sandisk said the camera will only take a 2gb max but did not say if the newer ones will work or not. Can I expect the speed of the camera to increase with the newer cards compared to the older cards. Not that it really matters. Thanks Mark |

Hi Mark, The Sandisk 2 Gb card should work just fine in a D1. The speed in this case will probably not increase, not that the D1 is particularly slow? Unless of course you are making NEF's, which can slow it down and fill the buffer, 21 exposures from memory? Do you have the camera's user manual? You will need it to set the custom settings. They really need resetting to standard or thereabouts, unless of course you have had the camera some time. If the camera is new to you how is the battery? You really need at least two GOOD batteries for a D1 if you plan to use it intensively. Batteries which appear to be good and take a charge can still not have enough capacity to fire the shutter of a D1 if they are near the end of their life, which depending on use can be as little as 18 months. A good standard battery should take about 350 images per charge. We tend towards NmMh battery conversions for the D1 and D1x which give >1000 exposures per charge and have a much longer life. I was trawling the old Forum yesterday, there is a crib sheet with the Custom Settings for the D1. You can print it out and encapsulate it so it will survive the rigours of life in a camera bag. I will dig it out and post it here for you in the next day or so. |

If you need to update your battery then on my website there is a method for doing this in the download sections. |

The camera is new to me. I got 2 batteries 1 is bad. It will take a charge but the voltage drops on it and will not fire the shutter. The other is an after market battery and seems to be working good. I have seen threads on battey rebuilding and will look into that for sure. Jk your article is very good. Thanks Mark |

Dont forget that the maximum that the D1 can address in a CF card is 2GB. If you want to have a go at converting a battery then you can always PM or email me if you get stuck. |
