HI
yes you knew I would be back, I got elements 10 loaded and running, uploaded some pics from the camera and tried to print one, GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! it came out worse than bad. so I looked for a printer control or setup and can find nothing helpfull:wtf:   I found a minimal set of controls 4types of paper, some standard sizes aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrggggggg!!!! temped to toss the whole mess out the upstairs window (well maybe not quite) and that is not a MS window  LOL  the one print I got that was not a glossy print on matte paper was the same washed out muddy thing I was getting with ele 10 in windows, and nobody could figure that one out, so I switched to Capture NX2 and viola awesome prints. I am trying LR3 in my pc as I had a trial version and would like to try Apt 3.3 but still need to know about the printer controls I have 2 Epson printers a 810 and a r2000
I am just a old country boy and I know I am not the sharpest spoon in the drawer but It dose not take a bunch of smarts to look for something you just need them when you find it   Hummmmmmmm I think I just screwed up and made a profound statememt:diggingahole:

:salute: thanks for any assistance you can offer:bowing:

be well

Ed :cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::wine::wine::wine::wine::wine:

Have you set the two printers up in the Print setup dialogues in System Preferences?

I take it they are both on USB, If you are using a default setting in Elements then that might explain it.

I tend to Laser, and text at that, I rarely print images.

Hi Robert
Yes I have been there but that is not all that I need . I have searched on the net and tried some of the things from there but so far nothing very disapointing
I find it amazing that something so simple on the old pc is so hard to find on the mac
I expected things like this to happen but not with something soooooo important to me

Thinking about this...

Perhaps you need fresh drivers, you have a new iMac, so you are using a pre loaded OS and pre loaded drivers.

When you load your own OS you get to select the drivers (printer makes) you need.

Have you done the OS updates? New Macs don't always have the latest OS (or Drivers) installed, If you go to the Apple menu, select 'Software Update' and let it run it's course, will be several minutes. There may be some big downloads.

It isn't impossible the drivers from Apple are not the latest. If you go to the respective websites of the printer manufacturers, NOT the numerous upstart 'driver supplier sites' and download the latest genuine drivers that might be your solution. It may be that NX has a direct line to the printer bypassing the variable drivers to avoid this scenario.

JK, Doug or perhaps Tom would be better able to answer this one I have very little experience of printers.

Yes the updates is the first thing i did as soon as it was on the network, and it does have the driver for the 810 I have not tried the r2000 yet one issue at a time. I followed all the guide lines from apple support and still the same. I am trying to do this without ARRRRRGGGGGGG installing windows:sick::banghead:
Thanks for the support Robert, just knowing someone gives a rip and is trying is some comfort in the storm

Being on Lion you should have no serious issues, because it's fairly well sorted now, been out for a year so these issues should be resolved. I would call Apple support if the issue persists, You have 90 days free support, they can usually find a solution.

Take a ride out somewhere nice, take your mind off it. You will feel better for it.

Your first thoughts about drivers were correct it seems, I went digging:diggingahole: on apples download sight and found an epson specific driver and made a huge difference on a scale of -5 to +5 they have gone fron a -4 to a +3 so I just need to burn some more paper and  ink and then record the settings and we will be good, well would you believe so so  and that is almost a deffinate maybe  o.O

:cheersduo::cheers::rasper:all this has been done with the epson 810 I have not been able to get really great prints from it they are better now so on to the r2000 which has always done very well so should be easy RIGHT!!!!!!   LOL

all the best     Ed

That's good Ed, I was reassured when I saw Doug had visited the forum yesterday evening and not made further suggestions, that I must be on the right track.

To get the last few points of image quality from the printer you would probably need custom profiles. These adjust the colour gamut the printer produces to more accurately reproduce what you see on the screen, on paper. These profiles depend on the type of paper, the ink and the printer of course. I have never used a profile, but as I say I don't print images much. There are members here who do use them and regard them as indispensable.

If printing is important to you then I suggest you check out profiles. We had a member on the old forum, Edmund Roland from Paris? who specialised in creating custom profiles.

I would add that my favourite app for printing is Lightroom and I find it easy and generally quite successful to print even using canned profiles (which are downloaded from the paper manufacturers website (or included with the Epson driver if you stick to Epson paper))
The only issue is a tendency for prints to come out dark due to some of us having screen brightness set far too high (particularly those with iMacs), it is for this reason I think that Adobe have added a print brightness setting to LR4

Of course a properly calibrated Eizo or similar will obviate the need for this feature

Ed, I think that one of the other things that you need to make sure is that what you see on screen is 'correct'.

Investment in a ColorMunki or Pantone Spyder is heavily underrated by most but it makes a huge difference if you know that your image on screen is right as then when you print the screen and print should 'nearly' match.

The latest drivers from the printer manufacturer are a must have item as well. At least you have those now.

JK, given this is an iMac, the colour matching will be pretty near, I accept the LED brightness will be a bit, or a lot too bright but that's easily corrected.

For a computer box (Mac or PC) with a separate screen I agree, they need calibrating.

One issue I have is getting both my (dual) screens calibrated to be even close to matching each other, something I have yet to achieve.

Yes I do have the calibration spyder and software. I find I can get closest match using the screen calibration software included in the Apple Displays preferences, expert mode.

I have a spyder and have used with both a Mac and a PC, however the screen is still always brighter than the print, I think the slider in Lightroom is a great idea.

Hi Guys
It is a relief to make some progress in the right direction.
The next two days are busy so will not get much of a chance to play with it today I am spending with my daughter and Saturday is a fly day at Paine field in Everett Wa. at noon they will put on a very good demo of 2 possibly 3 ww2 or antique aircraft, I will be there early and stay after in one of the facilities either Flying Heritage Collection,or Historic Flight Foundation, both have really nice collections and mostly different. You can see them on the web just google the names.
that will mean a whole new batch of photos to print YEEEE HAAAAWWWW!!!!!!!
One thing I noticed with my 2 printers is if I use the R2000 I get prints that are very close to what I see on screen, but the 810 is a very different story and not a happy one and this is printing the same item with same setup. My Asus 24 1nch monitor is close to being right on
I did see the screen calibration in settings on the mac so I will check that out too.

Oh there I go again rambling, oh well I am told it is "old timers"

THANKS
ED

Hi
I have been away from the printing issues for a while, last night aI got brave and printed a pic from something I took on the weekend. Ooooops I should say that I hooked up the Epson R2000 via usb to the iMac and with no adjustments I got some of the most awesome prints I have ever done. They are as close to matching the screen as anything on paper could be. I took then out and showed them to some people around town and the reaction was the same as mine. Now I truly think I have a sellable product

So I have to say thank you all so much for all your support and advice

:applause: :bowing: :hi:  :cheersduo:

Well done. These printer problems tend to be very difficult to crack remotely as you need to check settings very methodically. Also what works on a Snow Leopard machine wont necessarily work on Lion or Mountain Lion machine as different drivers may be implemented in the OS. Also printer manufacturers produce driver packs for each OS to match their printer.
My advice is to not check for the latest driver but the most suitable one for you version of the printer and OS.
