I think the option 'personal hotspot' is not visible in the main settings menu until you have visited settings>general>network>personal hotspot and selected 'on'
After this it will remain available as the 3rd option under 'settings, regardless of its on/off status

I recommend installing something like quota to track your usage and check how much you will get charged if you go over your quota

I got charged $100 for going 500mb over my 500mb quota
(refunded because I had already requested a 2000mb data bolt on for $10/month)

A client of mine got charged $25000 for using a few hundred megabytes when overseas thanks to a helpful Telstra employee (young lad in a telstra shop) telling him it shouldn't be too expensive to use roaming (I think the question related to calls and the victim didn't understand the difference/option of data roaming which was switched on

Telstra kindly reduced it to $2500, after he complained

It's a shame he wasn't already a client at the time this happened since I would have made sure he was able to remain connected at a very low cost using Skype/free wifi

Telstra (actually all Australian Telcos) have some of the most expensive roaming charges in the world, they are as standard walking away from large bills because folk just can't pay them. A week in NY, receiving 60-80 e-mails a day on a Blackberry with Optus was about $1000, and thats without attachments.

Ahhh. Finally found it. Or I think so anyway.

On my iPhone 3G I have to enable wifi.
Then go into /General/Network/Cellular Data = On
Then It shows Internet Tethering via USB or Bluetooth.

My iPhone is only on iOS 4.2.1 I'm not sure it will go higher as it should have automatically upgraded to iOS5 when I link to iTunes.

Well done Andy there are simple things like this that cause trip ups when using mixed hardware.

When it is all Apple hardware then it really does just work!

In the past I think its been said that you dont need anti virus software for Macs.
Is this still the case?
If you do need it, any recommendations as to which one?

No, you don't need it as of now, although that could change?

The recent infection has been dealt with by updates from Apple. I don't think OS 10.6 (which is substantially different from OS 10.7 and 10.8) will be a tempting target for potential virus infection so you should be safe anyway.

I think Sophos has been mentioned as a Mac anti virus vendor but Doug will probably know more than me on that.

Have you looked at the Apple Support Community (ASC):

https://discussions.apple.com/community/

There are lively discussions there on all things Apple, with a membership ability ranging from moron to genius and all levels between! Look out for Epochmaker... LOL

Just put Antivirus in the search box and sit back!
